Thripidae


[R] Family of the order Thysanoptera (sub-order Terebrantia) with a saw-like ovipositor bending downwards. Wings are pointed and quite narrow. Antennae terminate in a tapered style.
This group includes numerous piercing and sucking pests, which suck up intracellular fluids. Among the most destructive species in Europe are the grain thrips (Limothrips cerealium), the peach thrips (Thrips meridionalis), the rye thrips (Limothrips denticornis), the (Frankliniella occidentalis), the (Frankliniella robusta), the (Thrips tabaci), the (Thrips angusticeps) and the (Taeniothrips inconsequens).
