Abdomen


[R] Posterior part of the body of insects; usually composed of 10 segments although fusion is common; contains the posterior part of the alimentary tract leading to the anus and the reproductive organs opening to the exterior; true legs never present but abdominal prolegs characteristic of lepidopterous and hymenopterous larvae; cerci sometimes occurring on the abdomen.
