[R] Family of the order Coleoptera; adults rather large; larvae flat with lateral extensions, mostly coprophagous (feeding on excrement) or eating decaying matter. Nicrophorus, a well-known species of this family, buries corpses of small vertebrates on which the larvae will later feed.
