Cocoon


[R] More or less loose envelope enclosing the pupa of certain insects. The larva spins it before undergoing pupation by secreting silken threads.
A cocoon may also incorporate various kinds of extraneous material, for example, soil particles, small stones, leaves or other vegetation.
