Integument, Cuticle

[R] Outer skin of arthropods. Since rigid and not expandable, the integument or cuticle serves as an exoskeleton and makes it necessary for the animal to grow through a series of successive moults.
The envelope of nematodes is also called cuticle (and, sometimes, integument).
