Pupa


[R] Intermediate stage between the larva and the adult in holometabolous insects.
A cocoon is often present.
The term "pupa" is sometimes used to designate immobile stages in the development of the Thysanoptera, the Aleurodidae and male scale insects.
Pupal cuticle hardened and often coloured, but leg, wing and antenna pads of future adult visible; pupa almost immobile and often enclosed in a cocoon.
