Heteroptera, Bugs

[R] Order of hemimetabolous, aquatic or terrestrial insects with piercing and sucking mouthparts (*) ; phytophagous or zoophagous; fore wings with a leathery basal area, hind wings membranous.
In addition to "mechanically induced" damage (beak-like mouthparts) and depredations due to the sucking of sap, phytophagous Heteroptera inject toxic saliva into plants, which can cause severe damage.
Bugs injurious to cultivated plants include the Pentatomidae, the Tingidae and the Miridae.
