Solanaceae


[R] - Family of dicotyledonous plants, characterized by 5 petals that are attached to the halfway point, and 5 stamens attached by the anthers. This family has many cultivated species: tomato, potato, tobacco, eggplant, pepper andred pepper. Other non-cultivated, but common family members are the weeds bitter-sweet (Solanum dulcamara), black nightshade (S. nigrum) as well as S. physalodes and hairy nightshade (S. villosum).
